BBC Backstage Press Area - The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Client: BBC Studios
Event: Party at the Palace – Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee
Role: Press Area Lead

The Brief:

To design, produce, and manage a fully functional backstage press area for BBC Studios, supporting live broadcast interviews and photography with performing talent. The space needed to serve multiple major broadcasters - including BBC News, Sky, ITN, and CBBC - and provide official photography access for Associated Press.

Party at the Palace was a landmark celebration with over 12,000 attendees on-site and a televised audience of 13.3 million - making it one of the most high-profile and logistically complex events of the year.

My Role:

I was responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the BBC Studios backstage press hub. This included close collaboration with BBC Communications, Artist Liaison, and the Platinum Jubilee Production Team to ensure seamless integration alongside the wider event setup.

Key elements included:

  • Creation of a dedicated functional working press zone

  • Installation of a 10-metre red carpet broadcast line and branded press wall

  • Oversaw the on-site setup and managed press entry coordination

Given the scale and diplomatic importance of the event, we navigated fast-evolving security protocols, shifting talent timings, and last-minute access changes - requiring calm under pressure and highly agile planning.

End Result:

Despite the scale of the event and limited setup time, we delivered a press area that was efficient, well-run, and highly praised. Sky News, talent teams, and BBC Studios Comms all gave positive feedback on the organisation and smooth operation of the space.
